MINUTES ARE UNOFFICIAL UNTIL APPROVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE HICKORY COUNTY LIBRARY DISTRICT
The Regular Meeting of the Hickory County Library Board was held on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Hickory County Library Community Room, at the Hickory County Library, 18376 New Hermitage Drive, Hermitage, Missouri, 65668.
President, Shelly Aubuchon called the meeting to order at 10:00 am
Attendance was taken via the expense voucher with the following present: President, Shelly Aubuchon, Vice-President, Ernest Jenkins , Treasurer, Brenda Charles Secretary. Eleanora Smith and Library Administrator, Stacy Coulsell. Trustee, Kevin Bolling was absent
The minutes of the last board meeting and today’s agenda were read. Brenda Charles made a motion to accept the Agenda and the minutes, Ernest Jenkins seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Library Administrator Stacy Coulsell presented her monthly Administrator’s Report as follows: Hickory County Historical Society held their meeting at the library on Tuesday April 14th. The preschool story hour continues. This year’s summer school story hour will have a patriotic theme. There are still free books for kids to be given away. At present, there is a Bunny Challenge reading punch card program at the library. Lights are scheduled to be replaced in a number of areas. There is another workshop planned for Stacy to attend before Mahjong games and clubs will be presented at the library. Stacy continues to learn and integrate Kanopy (a movie streaming service) available through the library. Summer schedule includes the ventriloquist Doug Mickan on July 24, at 2 pm. In May, paintings by Colleen Roberts will be on display. Included in the upcoming summer line-up is a musician, a story teller and a professional period costume character. The return of game nights and Bingo are also in the planning. Thomas Schnitz will have his collection of self-made military aircraft and watercraft models on display the last week of May. Also scheduled are the What If Puppets for July 22nd, this will be in partnership with Hermitage Summer School (they will perform for the summer school students). Ernest Jenkins moved to accept the Administrator’s Report as given. Brenda Charles seconded and the motion was carried unanimously.
New library cards for March were reported at 22 new cards with a total of 2,813 library services used.
The balance as of April 20, 2026 was $162,011.03 Ernest Jenkins moved to accept the Financial Reports as presented, Eleanora Smith seconded and the motion was carried unanimously.
President’s Report: Shelly Aubuchon acknowledged the awesome job the Friends of the Library book sale that also including baked goods, plants and raffles.
Under Library Association: The annual lease payment and the annual insurance payment due in May have already been submitted.
Under Friends of the Library – The Spring book, raffle, plant and bake sale wrapped up this afternoon.
Under Old Business: Equalization funds will be spent on five new computers and Kanopy.
The library is still searching for one more new home somewhere at a location in Hickory County, for a “Little Library”. The “Little Library” and the books are provided by the Hickory County Library. This is a book swap type of library. You can take a book or bring a book to swap.
Under New Business – The quarterly balance report and the annual audit report were filed and copies of each were given to members of the board. Replacing the library’s flag is also planned.
The next meeting is to be on Monday, May 18, 2026 at 10:00am
Having no further business and hearing no public comment, Ernest Jenkins moved to adjourn the meeting at 10:45 am, Eleanora Smith seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
