The Regular Meeting of the Hickory County Library Board was held on June 11, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Hickory County Library Community Room, at the Hickory County Library, 18376 New Hermitage Drive, Hermitage, Missouri, 65668.

President, Shelly Aubuchon called the meeting to order at 10:00 am

Attendance was taken via the expense voucher with the following present:

Treasurer, Brenda Charles was absent.

Ernest Jenkins made a motion to accept the Agenda and Eleanora Smith seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

Library Administrator Stacy Coulsell presented her monthly Administrator’s Report.   For community service, the Library has created and distributed song books for the Hermitage Rehab Center.  The summer school preschool reading program continues with the “Tale of Despereaux” being read,  The preschoolers are read chapters of the book.  After each session, the participants either draw a picture of what was read that day or they make a prediction on what might happen next in the book. The McReader program is back.  Age requirements are from preschool to high school.  When a participant completes a book and returns it to the library, they will receive a “punch” on their card. Once the participants have completed 10 books, their card will be complete.  They then visit any participating McDonalds to receive a free Happy Meal.  A “Best Sellers” Club has been set up.  This means that patrons won’t have to actively search for and reserve new books because the Library will do it for them.  Thursday, June 19th, the library will be closed for the federal holiday, Juneteenth. The library has an over abundance of DVDs and are offering them for sale for $1 each. The Book Club is meeting on Monday, June 30th at 1 p.m. to discuss the book “Thread Collectors”.  As the library has run out of room to store donated books, the library continues to request book donations be put on hold.    The library is still searching for two new homes for “Lil Libraries” to be placed at locations in Hickory County. Plans are still being made for an art exhibit by local artist Catherine Hash, a beginning crochet class by Jody WheelerSince the Seed Sharing program was such a success, another one is being planned for those with fall gardens.  Next week, Book Bingo is being planned.  This is a sort of scavenger hunt mixed with Bingo for all ages to participate in. More kids programs are going to be offered in the late summer or early fall. The Ventriloquist, Doug Mickan is scheduled at the Hickory County Library on Friday, August 1 at 2 p.m.

New library cards were reported at 18 new cards with a total circulation +of 2,916.

The balance as of June 2025 was $125,354.33. Eleanora Smith moved to accept the Financial Reports as presented, Kevin Bolling seconded, and the motion was carried unanimously.

In the President’s Report, Shelly Aubuchon commended and thanked Stacy Coulsell for her continued preschool reading program.  It was noted how impressive it was that Stacy read entire books (not just picture books) to the preschoolers.  Shelly also wanted to commend the creativity of the Friends of the Library in their making of and free distribution of book marks available at the library’s check out.

Under Library Association:  The transfer of funds has been made from the Supersave account.

Under Friends of the Library – The Friends of the Library are offering for sale, “A Blind Date with a Book”.  Each book comes with treats and a hint of what you might get to read. These are being offered for $10 each while supplies last.   The Friends of the Library have also created and are offering free of charge various book marks. Their next book sale is being scheduled for October.  Their Gypsy duck for the upcoming duck race is on display at the library.

Under Old Business – The Mango Languages program is to launch soon…

Under New Business – The annual State Aid/Filter Certification /List of Trustees will all be due July 31st.

The next meeting is to be on Monday, July 21, 2025 at 10:00am

Having no further business and hearing no public comment, Eleanora Smith moved to adjourn the meeting at 10:40 am, Ernest Jenkins seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
